EMILY PELHAM AND ATLANTIC RAIN

Q&A

When did you start riding?

I started to ride when I was 4- learning with my cousins on a little Shetland called Dreamy, I competed in my first show when I was four, on Dreamy, and rode at riding schools and with my cousins till I was about 7.

Who was your first horse?

My first was a welsh mare from across the road, she was bay, hadn't done anything and was very naughty.

What is your equestrian ambition?

To move up through the grades, hopefully get to the higher grades and move toward national levels.

What is your favourite discipline?

I love eventing, I love being able to go through all three disciplines- you have to have the skill on the flat, the confidence for cross country and the ability to make careful choices in the show jumping. You have to be flexible- to change yourself and your horse to fit the frame for each of the disciplines.

What is Rain best at?

Rain is awesome at everything but I especially like cross country on him- he is like a machine, he just takes it all in his stride and just does it beautifully.

What is your favourite thing about Rain?

My favourite thing about Rain is... when he is lonely, he will just want to play with you and doesn't want you to leave, and when you do he whinneys. Also, when we go out it is no different to when we're at home- everything about him is what I love.

What does Rain most enjoy?

Rain loves bush rides and chasing kangaroos, he especially loves his Lick Its - he will stand there for hours just licking them. And eating too- he never stops.
