Platelet Rich Plasma at KAILO

Platelet Rich Plasma at KAILO

Lauren talks about one of her favourite treatments – PRP

PRP facials are a ground-breaking solution for ageing or damaged skin & known as platelet-rich plasma skin rejuvenation or PRP facial rejuvenation. It’s basically an anti-ageing skin treatment that leaves skin looking younger, smoother, and overall healthier.

Who is a good candidate for a PRP facial?
One of the best things about PRP facial rejuvenation is that almost any man or woman can be considered a great candidate for the procedure. This process is effective on all skin types and ages.

PRP facial rejuvenation is an excellent treatment option for individuals just starting to explore anti-aging and skin rejuvenation. Additionally, PRP facials are great for people looking to maintain healthy skin or looking to enhance their skin before a big event.

What is involved in PRP?
Our blood is made of plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. These platelets help our blood clot and produce growth factor proteins that are essential for healing. PRP facial rejuvenation uses platelets from your own blood to help heal and renew your skin. Growth factors are essential in our skin to keep it looking plump & full of elastin.

A PRP facial involves drawing a small vial of your blood which is placed in a centrifuge that separates the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the blood. This concentrates the platelet count to many times higher than usual. From there, it can be used to address a variety of skin complaints. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be injected into the face to help improve texture and tone, reduce wrinkles, and promote the growth of new collagen.

Can PRP be useful for hair loss?
PRP can also be used as an effective treatment for hair restoration. We are seeing some great results in our clients suffering from hair loss.

How Long Do The Results Of PRP Facial Last?
Because cosmetic treatments are dependent on the overall skin quality of each patient will influence the longevity of your results. At the very least, you should experience results, especially after your first treatment, for around 6 to 12 months. The results of a PRP facial are typically visible within a few weeks and continue to improve over time.

How Often Should I Get PRP Face Treatments?
To get the best results possible, it’s recommended to get PRP injection treatments for at least 3 months in a row. Of course, this may vary depending on how well your skin responds to the platelet-rich plasma injections. It also depends on the skin type and level of damage. Some clients only have PRP done once a year.

How does PRP differ from skin needling?
Microneedling is a quick collagen-inducing treatment which uses a dermaroller or skin pen to penetrate the skin with tiny needles. The PRP (or Vampire facial) injections are more invasive as the platelets are directly injected into the tissues.

PRP and microneedling are both used to treat the face and neck. PRP injections however are really effective for difficult to treat areas, such as the delicate under eye area.

In terms of benefits, PRP injections often give better results since this treatment is injected directly into the skin whereas microneedling is more of a topical-over the skin treatment.

That being said, each treatment has its strengths – PRP is particularly great for reducing wrinkles and fine lines since it increases collagen and skin elasticity and for hair growth while microneedling will do the same but is more utilized for acne scars and improving skin texture, since it is a topical application of skin. As PRP injections are more invasive there will be more downtime with some swelling or bruising experienced. Other than some redness or spot bleeding, microneedling has less downtime.
