Glutamine is an amino acid found within the body. Glutamine performs a number of functions in the digestive system ranging from management of intestinal diseases to the functioning of intestinal cells and processes. Glutamine has been seen to increase the integrity and cell turnover of enterocyte cells, the cells that make up the intestinal lining as well as regulating the tight junction proteins of the digestive system which creates a seal between cells, preventing leakage and allowing for selective movement Other roles of Glutamine include suppressing pro-inflammatory pathways and protecting cells from cell death, otherwise known as apoptosis. Glutamine supplementation has been seen to have positive effects on intestinal health due to its beneficial effects on the intestinal cells and improved intestinal mechanisms (Kim & Kim, 2017).

Digestive Enzymes are naturally produced by the body to assist in the chemical breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. However, supplementation of digestive enzymes may be beneficial for those with digestive disorders to assist in food digestion (Ianiro et al, 2016). Incomplete digestion of food leads to stomach pain, flatulence, bloating and more (Quinten et al, 2014). It also leads to a decrease in the body’s ability to effectively absorb nutrients and increases risk of developing intolerances (Quinten et al, 2014). Feel Well contains the digestive enzymes Bromelain and Papain. Bromelain is a protein digesting enzyme derived from pineapple and is readily absorbed by the body (Paven et al, 2012). Papain, on the other hand, is derived from papaya and has been shown to speed up digestion rate (Kostiuchenko et al, 2022). Both of these enzymes are beneficial in assisting with digestion and are suggested to improve the gut microbiome (Kostiuchenko et al, 2022).

Probiotics are living microorganisms which can be consumed through food or in the form of supplements (Kechagia et al, 2013). Inside the digestive tract is a colony of bacteria or microorganisms known as the gut microbiome. Probiotics have a beneficial influence on the gut microbiome by improving flora balance (Kechagia et al, 2013). Feel Well contains the probiotic Bacillus Coagulans, a highly resilient, spore-former probiotic which has been well-studied and documented to improve the gut microbiome and immune modulation (Gupta & Maity, 2021). Bacillus Coagulans have been associated with improving bloating, abdominal pain and other symptoms associated with digestive disorders (Gupta & Maity, 2021).

Aloe Vera is a herb found in many tropic and sub-tropic countries with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing properties (Kumar et al, 2019). Aloe Vera stimulates water secretion in the lumen by increasing cellular permeability, thus helping to reduce constipation (Kumar et al, 2019). Studies have shown that Aloe Vera supplementation has a large influence on reducing gut inflammation and intestinal damage (Fehrmann-Cartes et al, 2022).
