Supporting Your Body Through a GLP-1 Journey

Wendy Serrano

In 2026, it's reported that 2% of Australian adults use a GLP-1 medication each month. Approved for public use in 2005, these medications were designed to manage type 2 diabetes, support chronic weight management and reduce the risk of heart and kidney disease. Their use has since skyrocketed, rising almost tenfold compared with the previous decade.

The efficacy of these medications is clear, and as nutrition professionals, it is not our place to weigh in on the controversy. Every medication has its place.

What matters is that the people taking them understand how to support their body along the way.

Nutrition is a partner to the medication

It is well established that weight loss means losing some lean tissue as well as fat, and this is particularly true when calorie intake drops quickly, as it often does on GLP-1 medications. This may not mean much if your focus is the number on the scales. But, now more than ever, we are learning that food and lifestyle support should be part of the protocol, not an optional add-on, when working with a dramatically reduced caloric intake.

Our lean mass, and lean muscle in particular, does far more than help us lift and carry. It is one of the body's main metabolic tissues, playing a key role in how we use energy and manage blood sugar, while also supporting our strength, balance and mobility. As we age, the muscle we hold onto is closely tied to staying strong, capable and independent, which is why it is worth protecting.

Protein and strength training are the two levers

Eating enough protein and moving against resistance is the holy-grail combination that supports our muscles.

Protein provides the amino acids the body uses to maintain and repair muscle. When appetite drops, it becomes much harder to reach your usual intake without being intentional about it. Smaller meals leave less room, and protein-rich foods can feel heavy or unappealing.

Strength training is the other half.

Where protein gives the body the building blocks, resistance exercise gives it the signal to use them.

Meet KN+12: two proteins, one daily ritual

This is where KN+12 naturally finds its place.

KN+12 combines two proteins, whey and collagen, designed to make it easier to meet your protein needs in a form that is simple and gentle on a smaller appetite. Together, they deliver 25g of protein in one serving.

  • Whey protein: a complete protein containing all of the essential amino acids, and a well-researched partner to resistance training.

  • Collagen: a protein rich in amino acids such as glycine and proline, valued for supporting connective tissue and skin elasticity.

  • Creatine: one of the most highly researched supplements on the market, known for its impressive impact on endurance and cognition.

  • Urolithin-A: promotes muscle protein synthesis and muscle growth and mitigates muscle atrophy.

Rather than adding yet another supplement to a crowded routine, KN+12 is designed to be one simple daily practice, to complement the foundations that already support a balanced lifestyle.

Easy ways to start

  • Stir a serve of KN+12 into a smoothie, oats or yoghurt

  • Build meals around a protein-first plate

  • Choose smaller, more frequent meals if large ones feel difficult and supplement with KN+12

  • Schedule strength sessions into your week like any other appointment

Small, consistent rituals beat complexity

One simple daily habit now, designed to help you thrive long term, and doing that consistency is what carries you through your GLP-1 journey.
